On Hiatus

I am taking a break from blogging, email, etc in order to perfect my domestic skills. Or so I am telling you.
See you again one day!

All Better

After five days of sickness, my daughter is all better. I have to admit, over the course of her illness I forgot just how talkative she is. While it was terrible to see her limp and lethargic, I do miss her quiet compliance. Now she is back to her renegade self.

The past week was not very productive (other than washing much laundry). Five gallons of strawberries were cut, but unfortunately I did not get around to canning them. My compost pile is a very vibrant heap of ruby colored mush.
Some stuff was accomplished on a very small scale. A case of Strawberry Basil Conserve was cooked up–as were a few jars of Too Hot Bengali Chili Pickle as well as five pounds of Vanilla Hazelnut Granola Sweetened w/Maple Syrup. Everything smells so good when it is cooking. I can’t wait for a Google app to add scent to this blog!
This week the kids are off from school for spring break. Today is overcast with some showers; we are off to the post office and then to the craft store. Hopefully I am not too tired tonite to go into the jam kitchen!

My chilies. Not homegrown like these.

Strawberry and basil–an aromatic pairing.

Vanilla Hazelnut Granola Sweetened w/Maple Syrup. Wheat free, lots of flax, expeller pressed virgin coconut oil, organic goodness.

Glaringly good pickle (not photography)!

Post-Pistachio Sadness

You have not heard from me in a while because things have been quiet in the kitchen. My daughter has been very sick for the past five days with a stomach ailment. We suspect our little pistachio-nosher has been a victim of salmonella’s latest nut case in America.

The sickness is supposed to clear up in a week, so we are just continuing to give her ice pops and washing lots and lots of laundry as needed. She seems to be doing slightly better today, but that was the case on Friday–which was followed by a Friday nite and Saturday which served to reverse my opinion.
I have a few orders which are suffering from delayed shipment due to my daughter’s illness but I promise, tomorrow they are on there way.

Party’s Over: The Unemployed Have Their Moment In the Sun

Although at the very moment I am writing this I am contemplating my use of third person in this posts title, the truth is, I did not participate in the first ever Unemployed Olympics, organized by in the perfect locale for New York’s newly downtrodden demographic: Tomkins Square Park.

Twenty-six year old recently unemployed Nick Goddard threw the whole thing together, including Registration at the Unemployment Office, Pin the Blame on the Boss and office phone skee-ball. Winners stood atop cardboard boxes to receive their glory. First place: a $40 gift certificate to Curly’s Vegetarian Lunch.
